Sourcing
Why China?
Magnolia species are found across South Asia, the Pacific region and North America, but because of their especially fragrant and captivating aroma, dōTERRA chose essential oil obtained from trees grown in southern China.
How does it work?
Magnolia trees were once very tall, so growers harvesting the flowers could reach them only from scaffolding built around the trees. Over time, cultivation practices made the trees smaller to make flower picking easier. The trees begin growing in very large wooden or ceramic containers.
The essential oil is obtained from magnolia flowers. The flowers are hand-picked and spread out to dry for several hours before distillation. Magnolia flowers are harvested twice a year: once in summer and again in late autumn or early winter.
