Directions for Use

For massage, mix 5 drops with 10 ml carrier oil. For a bath, mix 5 drops with 5 ml carrier oil. As a perfume, mix 1 drop with 10 drops carrier oil. For external use only.

Sourcing

Bulgaria has a 200-year tradition of rose cultivation, primarily for essential oil production, making it one of the world’s largest rose oil-producing countries today. Located near the Black Sea, Bulgaria offers excellent growing conditions thanks to its dry, sunny climate and well-drained sandy soil.

The rose variety grown and distilled for doTERRA rose essential oil is the Damask rose, Latin name Rosa damascena. Rose bushes are usually planted in autumn and are ready to be harvested around May or June. Roses prefer sandy, clay-free soil, a sunny and moderately humid climate, and mild winters. The essential oil is extracted from the petals by steam distillation. The flowers are hand-picked in the early morning and distilled later the same day. It is important to distil the rose petals on the day of harvest to obtain the highest possible yield from the fragile, delicate petals.

Before the first morning rays appear over the Bulgarian sky, harvesters are already busy in the fields collecting the delicate petals of Rosa damascena. This highly labour-intensive production process provides a very low yield: more than 10,000 freshly picked rose petals are needed to produce just one 5 ml bottle of rose essential oil.
