Sourcing
Vetiver is a hardy grass that can survive both flooding and drought, and Haiti’s climate provides particularly favourable growing conditions. Vetiver helps prevent erosion and contributes additional nutrients to the soil. Haiti exports nearly half of the Vetiver essential oil available worldwide.
Vetiver belongs to the grass family. Its root system can reach 2–4 metres deep, making the plant especially effective for erosion control. Unlike most grasses, its roots grow vertically rather than horizontally. The essential oil is distilled from the roots. The longer the roots remain in the soil, the better the quality of the oil can be, so our growers receive an additional premium when they leave the roots in the ground longer. Ideally, Vetiver is harvested 12–18 months after planting.
